The 15th Asian and Oceanic Society of Regional Anesthesia and
Pain Medicine Congress

The 6th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Regional Anesthesia

President Masataka Yokoyama
(Professor and Chair,
Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine,
Kochi Medical School)

The 15th Asian and Oceanic Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Congress (AOSRA-PM 2019) will be held in Kochi in April 2019, in conjunction with the 6th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Regional Anesthesia.

The congress theme will be "Perioperative Management Locally and Globally ." While being aware of the clinical realities of local healthcare in a super-aging society, we have put together a program that also incorporates perioperative management as a multidisciplinary science with an international spread. As well as inviting internationally renowned researchers in the field of regional anesthesia and pain medicine, including the presidents of the 2018 World Congress on Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and the European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy, we are also inviting leaders in the field of anesthesia as a whole from around the world. We are planning an opening ceremony befitting an international conference, at which we intend to indicate our future direction as a medical association.

Evidence-gathering in the field of regional anesthesia is currently in full swing, with numerous papers being published. We are planning a full program of educational lectures that spotlight future clinical developments and the latest studies as well as symposia, and are also putting together a special program of hands-on seminars and other events for which there is high demand from participants. The majority of general presentations will be poster sessions, which will be put together in such a way as to enable plenty of discussion.

Late April, when the congress will be held, is a season of fresh greenery that is pleasantest time of year in Kochi. It is a bounteous season in both sea and mountains, with the year's first bonito catch and the harvesting of wild mountain vegetables, both of which I hope you will enjoy washed down by our popular local Tosa sake. The suburbs of Kochi are also home to numerous tourist spots. Please do take the opportunity of this international conference to visit the beautiful natural environment of Tosa. I look forward to seeing you there.
