The 9th Asia Pacific Chapter Meeting of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (APCM-ISPD 2019) is pleased to welcome you in Nagoya, JAPAN.
ACM-ISPD began in Hong Kong in 2002. In Japan, the third ACM-ISPD was held at Hiroshima in 2007. After that it expanded from ACM to APCM-ISPD. Meanwhile, the number of PD patients in Asia has dramatically increased, furthermore the management technology has improved, and now it is in the position to lead the world PD. There are many evidence sent from the Asia-Pacific region. Special mention should be made of adequate PD dose from Hong Kong, elucidation of peritoneal deterioration mechanism from Japan/Korea and EPS treatment, patient management by large scale facilities from China, PD-first from Thailand, and PD peritonitis management from Australia etc.
However, in Japan, the number of PD patients is only 9000, 3% of dialysis patients, this number has not changed over the past 15 years. Although the barriers to penetration have been discussed extensively, the most important point may be the loss of passion for medical personnel. APCM-ISPD 2019 is expected to be an opportunity for redevelopment of PD in Japan.
Although APCM-ISPD has been developed, the spread of PD therapy is still low in Asian developing countries, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, etc, and the system has not yet been established. Support for these countries will be a challenge of future APCM-ISPD.
We are looking forward seeing you in Nagoya and hope you will enjoy the meeting!
