Message from the President of
The 2nd Joint Meeting of
ESCHM-ISCH-ISB 2020 FUKUOKA
Director of The Japanese Society of Biorheology,
President of The 2nd Joint Meeting of ESCHM-ISCH-ISB 2020 FUKUOKA

On behalf of the Japanese Society of Biorheology, I cordially welcome you to The 2nd Joint Meeting of ESCHM-ISCH-ISB 2020 FUKUOKA. After experiencing the great success of The 1st Joint Meeting of ESCHM-ISCH-ISB 2018 Kraków, Poland, the local organizing committee members have so far prepared this Joint Meeting enthusiastically and cooperatively with great assistance of the international scientific committees of three parental Societies, i.e., The European Society for Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation (ESCHM), The International Society for Clinical Hemorheology (ISCH) and The International Society of Biorheology (ISB). This 2nd Joint Meeting will focus on the best and latest science and welcome three Plenary Lectures of individual Societies, three Medal Awards Ceremonies and Memorial Lectures administered by three Societies, well-organized symposia, oral presentations, poster session and so on.

The host city of Fukuoka has been repetitively named one of the most livable cities in the world by MONOCLE, a global magazine published in the UK (https://monocle.com/). Compact, convenient and comprehensive are the adjectives to describe Fukuoka. This sixth biggest city in Japan has developed so far by the distinct two districts, i.e., one is the Fukuoka area as a castle town, and the other is the Hakata area as a commercial town. Therefore, this city prospered in trade with old China and Korea and set a high value on the atmosphere of freedom. With eyes focused toward the future, the city takes leadership in both industry and academia as a model city not only in Japan but in Asia and globally. An ideal business start-up city Fukuoka is heading for the next generation with her historical legacy and heritage.

At holding this Joint Meeting in Fukuoka, I would like to personally appreciate enormous support of the local organizing committee members, i.e., the Vice Presidents of Prof. Goto, Prof. Ohashi, and Prof. Kaneda. Prof. Goto proposed many ideas to make this Meeting fruitful and attractive for all the participants. Prof. Ohashi contributed greatly to make the proposal to host this Joint Meeting in Fukuoka. Prof. Kaneda made great effort to disseminate this Joint Meeting to his own field of science and other territories. Additionally, international organizing committee members of Dr. Maria Fornal, Dr. Peter Butler, Dr. Herbert Lipowsky, Dr. Brian Cooke, Dr. Jean Frederic Brun and Dr. Sehyun Shin supported this Meeting greatly by kind consideration, important suggestions and generous actions. Further, we would like to express our great thanks to Fukuoka City, Kyushu University and our industrial partners for their generous support. We could not prepare such a prosperous Joint Meeting containing product theater and exhibition in many booths without such encouraging support from these partners.

Nowadays, pneumonia caused by novel coronavirus termed COVID-19 by WHO (https://www.who.int/) is outbreaking all over the world including Japan. However, this Joint Meeting is going to be prepared without any delay, because Japanese government has no hesitation to conduct the Tokyo Olympics Paralympics 2020 followed by this Joint Meeting. I’m also a member of the task force for COVID-19 in my University, and willing to update the COVID-19 information in this HP.

PS: This HP is growing depending on the collaboration of three Societies (ESCHM-ISCH-ISB) and local organizing committee. Content that requires further collaboration and refinement is indicated as 'tentative'.
