IHEPA 2016 Tokyo Meeting International Health Evaluation and Promotion Association
Chairperson : Toshio Kushiro
Chief of the Life Planning Clinic

The International Health Evaluation and Promotion Association (IHEPA) was established in 1970 at a meeting in Washington, D.C. by investigators engaged in automated multiphasic health testing services (AMHT). Announcement of dramatic results of screening examination using AMHT by Dr. Morris Collen of the Kaiser Permanente’s Oakland Hospital and Dr. Fred Gilbert’s center at Straub Clinic and Hospital and Pacific Health Research Institute promoted the establishment of the society.

Since then, the IHEPA international conference has been held biannually. The last conference was held at Taipei, Taiwan in 2014. The next IHEPA conference will be held on January 29th and 30th, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan. The concept and methodology of AMHT has become essential not only in screening examinations but also in medical services in general. I believe AMHT helped to improve population health and increased life expectancy.
Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara, the immediate past president of IHEPA, describes the need to prioritize healthy aging as well as healthy life expectancy. This has been increasingly recognized given our aging society.

The conference theme of the 2016 IHEPA Tokyo conference is “from health screening to health promotion”. I hope to see you at the 2016 IHEPA Tokyo conference where we can share our experiences and discuss current issues as well as future directions of screening examinations.
