The Japan Stroke Society, the Japanese Circulation Society and related 19 Societies now make “The Five-Year Plan for Overcoming Stroke and Cardiovascular Disease”, and work actively toward the establishment of a basic bill to counter stroke and cardiovascular disease. Registries for cardiovascular diseases and stroke are becoming important as one of the means for that. The Japanese Circulation Society registered all cases from Japanese cardiovascular specialized facilities as the Japanese Registry of All Cardiac and Vascular Diseases (JROAD), and can grasp the number of cases. Registries have also started at the Japan Stroke Society. It is important to understand such situation and discuss the problems from the perspective of the heart and the brain. Twenty percent of medical expenses in Japan occupy a combination of stroke and cardiovascular disease, which exceeds the cancer and is the largest. Stroke and cardiovascular disease are mostly caused by atherosclerosis, and their onset mechanism is the same as well. Furthermore, cerebral embolism caused by atrial fibrillation tends to be severe and tends to increase. In addition, prevention methods including anticoagulation therapy have been established. However, its reliable penetration is still insufficient. At this symposium, it would be greatly appreciated if the symposists introduce the registry of stroke and cardiovascular diseases nationwide, regionally, and further by facility, and also present the results on the comorbidity of stroke and cardiovascular disease. This symposium will lead to detailed registration of stroke and cardiovascular disease in the future, it will be possible to grasp the current situation and be expected to greatly contribute to future medical measures. I would like to expect active application.
