The 83rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society

Plenary session
Cooperation between cardiologists and stroke physicians as a stroke team

ENGLISH

Chairperson: Kazunori Toyoda(National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center)
Stroke is the largest cardiovascular disease, as well as it is the largest neurological disease, from the viewpoint of the high prevalence and high influence on the national health. Since cardiologists are often present at the scene of primary prevention, initial response, and secondary prevention of stroke, they should not be indifferent to this disease. An ongoing “five-year project for conquest of stroke and cardiovascular disease” desires cooperation between cardiologists and stroke physicians. Here, we introduce the latest developments of stroke medicine both within and outside Japan and clarify the role of cardiologists in better stroke care.
