The number of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing dramatically. Many patients with T2DM are complicated with various types of cardiovascular diseases including coronary artery disease and heart failure. Recently, the complication of T2DM and heart failure is called “deadly intersection” since the prognosis of these patients is very poor. The control of HbA1c less than 7% is an important standard for the prevention of cardiovascular disease, but severe hypoglycemia and postprandial hyper glycemia are also a risk of cardiovascular events. In this regard, unfluctuated blood glucose control and lower HbA1c is an ideal mean for the management of T2DM patients. In this symposium, we will discuss an ideal blood glucose control and the roles of various anti-diabetic drugs in T2DM patients for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. We expect your submission of fine basic and clinical research abstracts for this symposium.
