The Japanese Circulation Society (JCS) established the “5-Year Plan to Stop Cerebro-Cardiovascular Diseases” in collaboration with the Japan Stroke Association. JCS press-released it in December 2016, at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare Press Club. The plan has two major goals: "to reduce the age-adjusted mortality rate due to cerebro-cardiovascular diseases by 5% in 5 years, 10% in 10 years" and "to extend healthy life expectancy". Stroke, heart failure, and vascular diseases (acute myocardial infarction, acute aortic dissection / aortic aneurysm rupture, peripheral obstructive arterial disease) are positioned as three important diseases. In this symposium, distinguished speakers will talk about the progress and challenges of this 5-year plan, and the measures to be taken in near future. Particularly, we are planning to discuss about road map in each stage from primordial prevention to tertiary prevention for the next three years.
