ENGLISH

Chairperson: Keiko Takihara(Health and Counseling Center, Osaka University)
Gender difference is an important factor for the prevention, pathogenesis and treatment in cardiovascular diseases. In 2010, “Guideline for Gender-Specific Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease” was published from the Japanese Circulation Society. This guideline aimed to collect evidences concerning with gender difference in cardiovascular diseases in Japan, and let researchers know how evidence-based medicine for the prevention of cardiovascular disease in women is scanty. However, the spread of gender-specific medicine and gender-based basic and clinical research are still insufficient.
USA promoted gender-specific medicine since 1990’s and is one of the leading countries in this field. In addition, AHA initiated the “Go Red for Women” campaign in 2004, with enormous progress. We hope that this session will be a trigger to promote research, education and medical care of gender-specific medicine in Japan.
