The 115th Congress of Japanese Ophthalmological Society
It is my great honor to be appointed by the Council Members of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society (JOS) to serve as President of the 115th Annual Congress of JOS. The congress will be held from May 12th (Thu) to 15th (Sun), 2011, at Tokyo International Forum, Tokyo, Japan. I would like to invite you to the congress and I am confident that it will afford you an excellent opportunity to exchange the latest progress in our field with colleagues from around the globe.
More than one century has passed since the JOS was established. Since then, progress in science, medicine and ophthalmology has been remarkable and JOS has greatly contributed to this progress not only in Japan, but also in the world. The participants of the congress have increased rapidly in the last decade, and more than 4,000 attendants participated in the 2010 JOS congress.
The scientific program is organized by the Program Committee of JOS, chaired by Professor Yoshitsugu Inoue (Tottori University). The special lectures will be delivered by Professor Tatsuro Ishibashi (Kyushu University) and Professor Mitsuko Yuzawa (Nippon University). The invited lectures will be conducted by Professor Dong Feng Chen (Schepens Eye Research Institute, USA) and Professor John V. Forrester (University of Aberdeen, UK). In addition, the JOS Council Members' designated symposium, "Advancement for Glaucoma Research," will feature talks by Professor Kazuhisa Sugiyama (Kanazawa University), Dr. Kenji Kashiwagi (Yamanashi University) and Dr. Makoto Nakamura (Kobe University). We are looking forward to hearing the insights of these outstanding lecturers. Through the efforts of the program committee, 16 symposia covering all scientific fields in vision research and ophthalmology, 10 educational seminars and 9 "Subspecialty Sunday" topics, two topics of skill transfer, two sessions of ARVO-JOS joint symposia and over 500 original free papers will be presented during the congress.
The theme of the 115th JOS congress in 2011 is "Mission in Vision Research." We hope that the 115th JOS congress will be an opportunity to consider once again the mission and significance of vision research by ophthalmologists.
