Asia-Pacific Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (APOSSM) is under the sports medicine umbrella of Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA).
The APOA is an organization of orthopaedic surgeons mainly from the Asia-Pacific region. It was founded as the Western Pacific Orthopaedic Association (WPOA) in 1962 by seven orthopaedic surgeons, meeting in Manila.
APOSSM was inaugurated in Hong Kong in 1995 by Prof. KM Chan. Over the years, APOSSM is a strong supporter of International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). Collaborating with European Society of Sports Traumatology Keen Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) & Latin American Society of Knee Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine (SLARD), APOSSM has a strong history in running the intercontinental traveling fellowship since its establishment.
APOSSM has been well recognized as the regional leader in sports medicine field.
The first APOSSM Congress was held in 1995 at Hong Kong. Taipei, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand have hosted the Congress in 1995, 1997, 2002, 2004 and 2006 respectively.

In 2008, Hong Kong hosted the 6th APOSSM Congress, in conjunction with the 5th World Congress of Sports Trauma. The congress was well received with a record breaking registration of over 1000 participants from over 50 regions/countries. The comprehensive scientific program showcased the greatest line up of renowned faculties from all over the world.
APOSSM has established its Head Office in Hong Kong SAR in 2008, maintaining the regular work pertaining to the management of a new website, which is the window to our communication and networking, conducting the inter-continental & intra-continental traveling fellowship program, and also supporting the SMARTT journal editorial office.
