Dear Colleagues and Friends,
| It is great pleasure to hold the 41st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Spinal Surgery and Related Research (JSSR) on 19th-21st April 2012 at Ishibashi Cultural Center in Kurume City, Fukuoka, Japan. We are especially honored to host this meeting next year, since we will be in 2012 celebrating our 80th anniversary of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, of Kurume University School of Medicine. |
| We would like to understand and deeply respect the unprecedented judgment by Professor Yutaka Nohara, the Congress President of the 40th Annual Meeting, to replace the 40th Annual Meeting with an online Website meeting due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami that we suffered on 11th March this year. |
| During the 41st Annual Meeting, we are humbled to have a special lecture by Dr. Shin-ichi Kikuchi, Chairman of JSSR and President of Fukushima Medical University, who is devoted to working for the reconstruction of Fukushima, eastern Japan, since that terrible 11th March earthquake. |

| The theme of this meeting is Supporting the Human Body, Heart and Society being filled with Hotomeki. The spine is the basic structure supporting the human body. Treating spinal disease, spinal disease patients have got to behave positively, be relieved from their mental struggle against pain, and become able to come back to society to support society. Hotomeki is the word in our local dialect in this Chikugo area of southwestern Japan including Kurume City, that means the great impression induced by heart-warming reception and care. All the staff in our Department of Orthopedic Surgery intend to satisfy you on the points both of academic content and of heartfelt care giving Hotomeki to all attendants. In spring, nature gives us the warm climate to refresh our minds. As Kurume azalea blossom to their best, we have a local Azalea Festival held at Hyakunen-Park near the venue Ishibashi Cultural Center. There is also here the famous Ishibashi Museum of Art where we have a poster session. The museum shows us the heart-warming art works of the Ishibashi (Bridgestone) Foundation. The museum is famous for pictures painted by Shigeru Aoki, Hanjiro Sakamoto and Harue Koga who are from Kurume City between the end of the Meiji Period and the Early Showa Period. We sincerely hope you find a few minutes to visit to experience the treasures of the museum and enjoy the art. |

We are looking forward to welcoming you all and receiving your great support.
Thank you. |
