Greeting at the end of WDS2021

The 2nd World Dysphagia Summit (WDS) was successfully completed with the cooperation of all of you, although it was held mainly online. With great pleasure, more than 3,700 people from 29 countries around the world participated. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the many presenters who provided the data of academic research and medical information, the viewers, the members who were involved in the operation, and the companies that cooperated as sponsors.

The theme of this meeting, [Connect "Eat"], was invented by Professor Koichiro Matsuo and Professor Atsushi Kayashita, who were the chairpersons of the 26th & 27th Joint Meeting of Japanese Society of Dysphagia Rehabilitation (JSDR) that was held at the same time. Unfortunately, people are forbidden to eat and drink together currently, due to the spread of COVID-19. However, given the fact that international exchange and multidisciplinary collaboration have been promoted for the development of medical care through discussions of people all over the world using the internet environment at the academic meeting discussing "eating", I was convinced that this theme was appropriate for the times.

The mission of holding WDS was to provide medical professionals around the world with information on optimal diagnoses and treatments for patients with dysphagia, as well as to develop the latest and more effective treatments. Although this meeting has not completely achieved the goal, I expect in the near future that as many patients with dysphagia as possible would regain the ability of joyful eating by disseminating all important information to every corner of the world through international cooperation such as DRS in the US, ESSD in Europe, KDS in Korea, and JSDR in Japan.

We look forward to seeing you at the 3rd WDS hosted by DRS in California in March 2023. I sincerely request the participation of many scientists and medical professionals. Thank you very much.
