Innovation in Heart Failure Research and Practice
The 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Heart Failure Society will be held from October 11 (Thu.) to 13 (Sat.), 2018 at Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo.
The main theme will be “Innovation in Heart Failure Research and Practice.” Despite Japan’s decline in population, the number of heart failure patients continues to increase, and is estimated to reach 1.3 million by 2030. Amid this heart failure pandemic, innovations in heart failure medicine outside the conventional framework are required. In addition to fusing basic research and clinical practice, there are demands for a sophisticated “heart team,” a new concept whose importance is increasingly being emphasized, to raise the quality of medical services in cardiovascular medicine.
This meeting will include the participation of not only basic and clinical physicians engaged in heart failure research and practice, but also a large number of medical professionals in diverse specialties. As such, the meeting is expected to encourage a broad range of discussions across occupational borders, with the aim of realizing innovations in heart failure research and practice.
Interesting programs will ensure that participating medical professionals enjoy the event. In particular, there will be not only presentations on the latest basic research and clinical studies by leading researchers from Japan and abroad, but also sessions that allow young basic researchers and clinicians to have direct discussions, in order to achieve the main theme of the conference. Other topics will include clinical practice systems, telemedicine, terminal care, and palliative care with a focus on the coming era of a heart failure pandemic. Above all, I would like to make the meeting a participatory and interactive opportunity for all the participants to think for themselves and to express their opinions, rather than to simply listen among the audience. I hope that many participants will present their research achievements and engage in active discussions to make the meeting fruitful.
The meeting will take place jointly with the 9th Asian Pacific Congress of Heart Failure (APCHF 2018) (congress president Prof. Hiroyuki Tsutsui). During the same period, the 37th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Society for Heart Transplantation (congress president Prof. Minoru Ono) will be held at the same venue. The meeting will surely be an excellent opportunity for a wide range of medical professionals worldwide.
