President, the 30th Annual Meeting of the JSCRS
Kazuno Negishi
Department of Ophthalmology, Keio University School of Medicine

I am honored to have been appointed the president of the 30th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JSCRS). I would like to first express my sincere gratitude to the Board of Directors and members of the JSCRS for giving me the opportunity to lead this long-established academic conference.

The JSCRS started out as the Study Group on Artificial Intraocular Lenses, which was established by Dr. Saburo Hayano and his colleagues in 1975 to exchange information about artificial intraocular lenses and related surgical procedures. It then continued on (1976 - 1984) as the Japan Intraocular Lens Implant Club (JIOIC) and became the Japan Intraocular Lens Implant Society (1985 - 1993). The society was renamed the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JSCRS) in 1994. Since 2015 marks the 30th year since the first general meeting of the Japan Intraocular Lens Implant Society was held back in 1986, the organizing committee and the congress secretariat are working together on planning special commemorative programs.

We have invited Dr. Naoyuki Maeda from Osaka University to provide the JSCRS Special Lecture as part of the academic program. As you already know, Dr. Maeda is an internationally recognized authority on ophthalmological optics and visual function as well as an expert on cornea and anterior segment surgery. I myself am very much looking forward to hearing from this trailblazer who has led us to the cutting edge of these fields.
In cooperation with the ASCRS and ESCRS, their continuing efforts devoted to introducing the newest information from an international perspective, we are honored with the opportunity to bring some of the most renowned experts in the fields of cataract and refractive surgery to offer the gASCRS/ESCRS/JSCRS Joint Symposium.h
The meeting will also include symposia covering the latest in cataract and refractive surgery as well as paper sessions where findings of leading-edge studies are presented and discussed. Another highlight of the meeting will be the practical education seminars designed to provide basic information about ophthalmological optics. These seminars will deliver needed insights into the practice of clinical ophthalmology as well as the fundamental principles and performance of ophthalmic diagnostic equipment in clinical applications. Featuring as many varied programs as time allows, we guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

The Annual Meeting of the JSCRS provides the perfect opportunity to present findings from advanced research on cataract surgery, the foundation of ophthalmic surgery and the most important medical solution in our hyper-aging society, as well as refractive surgery, which is so vital to improving a patient's quality of life. While opening a window on the latest developments in these areas, this informative event should serve as a catalyst for new studies that will pave the way to better quality of life and vision. Above all, I hope to see many come and participate in a healthy discussion of the day's topics.

I look forward to seeing you all in Tokyo in June. Let's make it a bright and sunny day in the middle of the rainy season.
