President, Hiroyuki Harada, D.D.S., Ph.D.

The 66th Congress of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons will be held from Friday, November 12th to Sunday, November 14th, 2021 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
Currently, the spread of COVID-19 has caused many medical societies to hold completely online or hybrid conferences. I hope the situation will return to conventional style as soon as possible.
I look forward to having hot discussions in a safe environment with you in November 2021, when the heat from the Tokyo Olympics still remains with us!

The theme of the Congress will be “Thinking About the Progress of Oral Surgery to Date and the Future” During this congress, looking back on the unique developments of oral surgery so far, I would like to think together with you about the future direction of our field.

We have invited Dr. Shigeru Omi, who is working hard to combat COVID-19 on the front lines, to give a Special Lecture on the hardships and future prospects of the virus. I sincerely hope the situation has improved by the time the congress is held. Professor Kohei Miyazono Ph.D. of the Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, has been invited to give the Lecture on research up to now and future prospects of signal transduction abnormalities centered on TGF-β. Also, we have invited Professor Takanori Takebe, department of Organ and Tissue Neogenesis Consortium, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, to give the Educational Lecture on the forefront of regenerative medicine.

We have also asked Professor Sheng-Po Hao of Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital, Fu-Jen University to give the Invited Lecture. He will describe Outstanding Surgical Techniques for Oral Cancer. Professor György Sándor of University of Oulu, who has experienced countless clinical cases of mandibular reconstruction using adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells, will present clinical practices of regenerative medicine in the maxillofacial domain. Also, Professor Nils-Claudius Gellrich of Hannover Medical School will give a lecture on computer-assisted mandibular reconstruction. In addition, the congress is enthusiastically planning symposiums that will steer us into the future of oral surgery.

I look forward to your participation.
