岩崎 倫政

It is a great honor for us, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Hokkaido University, to host the 36th Annual Meeting of the Japan Elbow Society on Friday, March 1 to Saturday, March 2, 2024 in Sapporo, a city known for its pioneering spirit. I am the fifth alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine, Hokkaido University to serve as President of the meeting, following Dr. Seiichi Ishii (the 3rd Annual Meeting in 1991), Dr. Michio Minami (the 14th Annual Meeting in 2002), Dr. Toshihiko Ogino (the 23rd Annual Meeting in 2011), and Dr. Masatoshi Takahara (the 35th Annual Meeting in 2023). Currently, we are working hard to prepare for the forthcoming meeting to ensure that it will be as successful as these previous four meetings.

The main theme of the 36th Annual Meeting is “Total Approach to Elbow Disorders,” which reflects our desire to offer fruitful opportunities for participants to discuss and explore a comprehensive range of relevant topics, from understanding the clinical conditions of patients based on basic research, to insights in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of elbow disorders gained through translational and clinical research. We will organize lectures, symposia and panel discussions in line with this theme.

This is the first time for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Hokkaido University to host an Annual Meeting of the Japan Elbow Society. Japan’s elbow surgery has been making progress by building on the achievements of many distinguished surgeons before us. To maintain this momentum of progress, I hope many members of the Japan Elbow Society will participate in the meeting and engage in heated discussions. Especially, I look forward to the participation of young surgeons, who will lead elbow surgery in the future.

While Sapporo in March is still cold, its snow-covered landscape is breathtakingly beautiful. All the members of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as the alumni association of the Faculty of Medicine of Hokkaido University, will work together to make the forthcoming meeting highly useful for the members of the Japan Elbow Society. We are looking forward to welcoming many of you to Sapporo.
