The theme of the meeting is ‘Diagnosis and treatment for macro- and micro-metastasis’. Accurate diagnosis is essential to determine the treatment strategy for macrometastasis. Based on the preoperative diagnosis, we have to control the metastases by using surgical therapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, molecular target therapy, and immunotherapy. It is also important how to evaluate the therapeutic effect by imaging means, genetic and molecular biological methods. In recent years, conversion surgery after a variety of treatments has improved the prognosis for patients with unresectable advanced tumors or distant metastases. On the other hand, there are many things that remain to be elucidated regarding micrometastasis. It has been unclear whether there is no cancer cell, or we just cannot detect tiny amount of cancer cells. It is not uncommon for patients to relapse more than ten years later in clinical setting. We encourage basic and clinical presentation about the nature of the metastatic cancer cells lurking in the blood, bone marrow, organs, and lymph nodes from diversified viewpoints by using various methods. Kagoshima city in July is in the midst of hot summer, but we expect the energy of this annual meeting will overcome the summer heat. After hard discussion and learning at the meeting, Kagoshima’s delicious shochu and foods are waiting for you.
