第70回公益社団法人日本口腔外科学会総会・学術大会
Greeting
The 70th Congress of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
Congress President  Jingo Kusukawa
(Professor at the Dental and Oral Medical Center, Kurume University School of Medicine)
The 70th Congress of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (JSOMS) will be held for three days from November 14 (Friday) to 16 (Sunday), 2025 in Fukuoka. The JSOMS Congress is returning to Fukuoka after an interval of 12 years following the 58th Congress, and it is the first time in 39 years for Kurume University to host the Congress, following the 31st Congress held in 1986 under the presidency of the then Professor Chokudo Sujaku. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the JSOMS members for granting us the honor of hosting this prestigious meeting.

The theme of the 70th Congress is “∞ Infinity: From the Origin to the Future,” which represents our determination to open up the future in pursuit of infinite opportunities building on the knowledge and experience that underpin oral surgery. In line with this theme, we have created a program that focuses on the basics of oral surgery combined with the future prospects. For special lectures, we will invite Dr. Nobuyuki Hirohashi, Professor at the Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine of Hiroshima University, and, from abroad, Dr. R. Shane Tubbs, Professor at Tulane University in the U.S., a renowned clinical anatomist. To commemorate the milestone of the 70th Congress, we will also invite Dr. Masashi Yanagisawa, Professor at the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine of the University of Tsukuba, to deliver a lecture.

In addition to symposiums and educational lectures covering a wide range of topics, we will organize basic lectures to educate early-career doctors on medical issues critical for clinical oral surgery. Especially, I hope that this Congress will offer meaningful opportunities for young doctors to gain knowledge and build personal networks that will help them with their career paths and professional growth.

Fukuoka City, the host of the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, has developed as the front gateway to East Asia. It is a city where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly, offering a rich cultural heritage alongside cutting-edge innovation. The venue of the 70th Congress is the Fukuoka International Congress Center, which is located near Tenjin and Nakasu, popular downtown districts, as well as Hakata Station, and faces Hakata Bay. At the venue, food stalls will offer local delicacies of Kurume, which is renowned for so-called B-class gourmet (affordable, delicious casual food) and is the birthplace of tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen noodles. It is also one of the seven cities in Japan known for the best yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). We hope participants will enjoy a unique, tasty experience. Incidentally, the period of the 70th Congress will coincide with the Grand Sumo Tournament in Kyushu to be held in the Fukuoka Kokusai Center adjacent to the Congress venue, which will give this Congress a special vibe not felt in past Congresses.

We will make every effort to ensure the forthcoming Congress is fruitful for JSOMS members, and look forward to heartily welcoming many of you to Fukuoka.
