The 71st Congress of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (JSOMS2026)

Congress President, Yoshiki Hamada, D.D.S., Ph.D.

(Professor and Chair, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery,
School of Dental Medicine, Tsurumi University)

First of all, I would like to express sincere gratitude to all members of the Japanese Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (JSOMS) for granting me the honor of hosting the prestigious congress. Actually, our department had organized the 37th JSOMS Congress held in Yokohama (Congress Chair: Prof. Kanichi Seto) 34 years ago. Based on our valuable experiences at that time, we are making efforts to provide impressive and meaningful programs for all participants.

The 71st JSOMS Congress will be held at “Makuhari Messe” (Chiba nearby Tokyo) from November 6th to 8th, 2026. The comprehensive Congress Theme is “Looking toward The Future of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery”, and I strongly expect that many next-gen JSOMS members play important roles of moderators and/or speakers in the remarkable programs.

As the overseas special speaker, we have invited one of the greatest oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the world, Prof. Edward Ellis III (University of Texas, Health Science Center at San Antonio), and asked him to give young JSOMS members the passionate message based on his brilliant career. Also, Prof. Masayuki Fujihara (Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University) will take the stage for special lecture concerning the future global environment looked through the current situation of water resources in the world. Further, we have invited Prof. Ken Iwatsuki (Tokyo University of Agriculture) as another special lecturer and look forward to hearing on the organoid culture including the taste bud (“Mirai” in Japanese pronunciation)” which would lead to an innovative breakthrough in the future (“Mirai” in Japanese pronunciation) clinical scene of our field. Even in the regular programs, such as educational lectures and various symposiums, we will manage hard works to supply the precious opportunities for gaining significant new knowledge and information.

In the Congress Dinner, a famous cheering party will show us their wonderful performances. Although we will not arrange any official post-congress tours, you can easily visit several sight-seeing spots in Chiba, Tokyo and Yokohama, such as Tokyo Disney Resort, Yoro Valley, Nokogiriyama Mountain, Tokyo Sky Tree, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama China Town, Minato-Mirai Area and Ramen Museum etc.

In any case, we really hope that The 71st JSOMS Congress will inspire the spirits of all participants, especially younger ones, to enhance their career with looking toward the future of oral & maxillofacial surgery. Finally, let us gather in “Makuhari Messe” and encourage each other to enthuse the forthcoming our Congress !!
