The 30th Open Symposium of the Children’s Cancer Association of Japan
Chairman & CEO, Children’s Cancer Association of Japan
For many years the Children’s Cancer Association of Japan (CCAJ) has held an Open Symposium jointly with of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (JSPHO) and the Japanese Society of Pediatric Oncology Nursing (JSPON) at the annual congress of these two societies. This year, it will be the 30th anniversary of this joint effort, and will be held on Friday, November 21st, 2025, the final day of the congress, at Fukuoka International Congress Center.

Since its founding in 1968, the CCAJ has consistently been undertaking various activities to help and support childhood cancer patients and families from the standpoint of families. Successful achievement of all our activities would not have been possible without the support of the JSPHO and the JSPON, as well as all other medical professionals dedicating to the fight against childhood cancer. This Open Symposium is one of the most important events symbolizing our long-standing collaboration with these two medical societies. Taking this opportunity, I wish to express my sincere gratitude for the support of the both societies as well as the chairpersons of the conference.

Although the details of this year’s symposium have yet to be worked out, we have selected the theme of the symposium as “Helping and supporting Childhood Cancer Patients and Families in Local Communities”, and have requested Prof. Tatsuro Tajiri and Prof. Shingo Ueki to be the co-chairperson. We hope that the presentations as well as discussions in the symposium will be very suggestive for all those involved in childhood cancer patients care in local communities.

In addition to the Open Symposium, with the support of the JSPHO and the JSPON we will also be offering our usual program, including “Exhibition of drawings by childhood cancer patients”, “Poster presentations reporting the accomplishments of Research Grant Program by CCAJ” and setting of a booth introducing advocacy organizations/groups of childhood cancer across Japan. Also, there will be a popular “Charity Marathon & Walk” around Ohbori Park, a land mark of Fukuoka City, in the early morning of Friday, Nov. 21st. I hope that many of you will join us in these programs as well.

For us CCAJ, participating in the annual congress of JSPHO/JSPON means not just an opportunity to glimpse and feel the progress in childhood cancer medicine but also has an important meaning of reassuring ourselves that patients and families are an important part of the chain encircling patients in childhood cancer treatment. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Tajiri, Professor Koga, Professor Ueki, and all those involved in the annual congress of the JSPHO and the JSPON, and hope to see many of you at the Open Symposium and other programs of ours.
