Dear colleagues,

As the COVID-19 pandemic has extended over the long term, many of you have no doubt been taking various countermeasures and putting forth your utmost efforts to care for patients with renal insufficiencies.

On this occasion, I am honored to announce that the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japan Academy of Nephrology Nursing and the 7th Asian Nephrology Nursing Symposium will be jointly held as a hybrid meeting on October 15 (Sat.) and 16 (Sun.) 2022, at the Nagoya Congress Center, Aichi, Japan and online.

The theme for the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japan Academy of Nephrology Nursing is “Mutually Supporting Care - Seamless Coordination.” As progress is being made on the construction of comprehensive regional care systems, it is required to realize a regional cohabiting society looking toward 2040. A regional cohabiting society is one in which local habitants as well as all diverse actors in the community participate and, through connecting people with people as well as people with resources, transcending age groups and disciplines, each and every member feels life is meaningful.

The majority of patients with chronic renal disease or renal insufficiencies who are undergoing treatment while going about their daily lives in regional communities tend to require multidisciplinary support. The time has come to consider anew who should provide support and in what ways, and further, what roles we as nephrology nurses can fulfill. Further multidisciplinary collaboration is essential among everyone involved, starting with medical professionals close at hand such as doctors, biomedical equipment technicians, pharmacists and managerial dieticians, as well as care managers, visiting nurses and other care-giving professionals, along with every member of the regional community.

It is my sincere hope that this meeting will provide a forum for in-depth debate among all participants on support for patients with chronic renal disease or renal insufficiencies by people in diverse professions and disciplines, aiming for seamless cooperation.

I look forward to welcoming many colleagues at this joint meeting.

Dear colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that the 7th Asian Nephrology Nursing Symposium (ANNS) will be held jointly with the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japan Academy of Nephrology Nursing. The ANNS was established with the objective of improving the quality of nephrology nursing in the Asia region and has convened this symposium every 2 years continuously since 2009 in various Asian countries. This year, the symposium will be held in Japan for the second time, following the Yokohama Symposium in 2013.

The 7th ANNS’ theme is, “Sharing our experiences to overcome the crisis.” This theme was chosen in the hope that health professionals engaged in nephrology nursing in Asia will share information about their countries, including the crisis situations encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic and experiences in handling those situations, or the various measures and action being taken in your countries in the domain of nephrology nursing regardless of the pandemic, to enable us to pull through this crisis together.

Unfortunately, there are still no signs of an end to the spread of infection related to COVID-19 and consequently, this symposium will be held online. I truly regret that we will not be able to meet each other in person, but I would like to encourage everyone to make best use of the advantages that only an online format can offer, and enjoy the international exchange of views. It would be my pleasure if this symposium could serve as a catalyst to foster interest in each other’s countries.

This year’s ANNS will be a 1-day program, and I hope that many colleagues from diverse countries will join us. I sincerely look forward to meeting you at the symposium.
