Congress President
Norimasa Nakamura, M.D., Ph.D.

(Professor, Osaka Health Science University)

It is my great pleasure to announce that the Japanese Society of Sports Orthopaedics 2026 will be held from August 27 to 29, 2026, at the Sapporo Convention Center. Our society was newly established in 2023 through the merger of the Japanese Orthopaedic Society for Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine (JOSKAS) and the Japanese Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (JOSSM). The 2026 meeting will mark our fourth annual congress. We are committed to carrying forward and integrating the traditions built by our predecessor societies, further developing this organization as Japan’s premier academic society in the field of sports orthopaedics. With the support of Osaka Health Science University, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Osaka University, and its alumni association, we are preparing to make this scientific meeting a success at the highest international level.

The theme for this year’s congress is “Explore Frontiers of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine” The advancement of sports orthopaedics requires the accumulation of solid scientific evidence in both basic and clinical research. Yet, to bring about a true paradigm shift—such as achieving a breakthrough in treatment—it is essential that the individual passion of many clinicians and researchers working in the same field converge into a shared direction and grow in magnitude.

I recall that, in the days when Japanese pioneers were making world-class contributions toward establishing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, our academic meetings—whether focused on clinical practice or basic science—were filled with heated debates and an extraordinary level of energy. Reflecting on that atmosphere, I have been asking myself: How can we bring that same intensity back to our meetings, inspiring the next generation to dream big and engage in research with enthusiasm? This question has guided the creation of this year’s program.

Specifically, we plan to invite numerous global opinion leaders in sports orthopaedics, not only to share the latest advancements in the field but also to actively engage with young Japanese clinicians through symposia and small-group case discussions. We believe that direct interaction and debate with overseas guests will provide valuable stimulation and serve as a catalyst for many young participants to strengthen their passion for future international research collaborations.

The growth of our society rests on the passion for science held by all our members—especially the younger colleagues who will lead future research and clinical practice. I sincerely hope that your active participation will help make this congress a fruitful and rewarding experience for all.

Our meeting will take place in Sapporo during the final weekend of August. At the end of summer, Sapporo offers a pleasantly cool climate, along with Hokkaido’s breathtaking natural beauty and an abundance of exquisite seafood and mountain delicacies. I warmly welcome you to join us for both an enriching academic exchange and an unforgettable experience in this beautiful city.

We look forward to seeing you in Sapporo.
