The 61st Annual Congress of Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons
Chairman  Tatsuro Tajiri
Professor, Department of Pediatric Surgery,
Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University
I am honored to serve as the president of the 61st Annual Congress of Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons scheduled on May 29th to 31st in Fukuoka. This marks the 5th time Fukuoka hosts the congress and I am proud to preside the congress of such a rich heritage by following the footsteps of Kyushu University senior alumni Dr. Kiyoshi Inokuchi of the 10th congress, Dr. Keiichi Ikeda of 20th congress, Dr. Sachiyo Suita of the 37th congress, and Dr. Tomoaki Taguchi of the 53rd congress.

The theme of the congress is “Aiming for True QOL Improvement.” It is most critical that pediatric surgical care today should have a focus on a patient’s QOL 20 years later in mind and I believe pediatric surgeons across the country are striving to do so by not only to save lives but to provide a tailor-made treatment to each patient individually by examining what is the best. Equally important for us is to strive to ensure the QOL of pediatric surgeons who dedicate their lives with such a noble principle for patients. At this congress, I hope we can exchange candid opinions that leads us to improve both QOL of patients and pediatric surgeons including work environment.

Today, the environment surrounding pediatric surgery is transforming in many aspects, and among them the key issues we should address are membership count, finance, revising the medical specialist system, and reforming the work style of physicians and they are all closely inter-related matters which I hope the congress serves as a platform to discuss comprehensively.

The venue of the congress is the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk as was at the 53rd meeting.
We are working hard to create a program that all members have an opportunity to get to know each other and to that end, I covet kind assistance from more experienced senior members by being present at the congress to make it beneficial to all. Finally, as the president, I look forward to welcome you to Fukuoka.
