Guide for the Young Investigator's Award for International Students

OBJECTIVE

The International Committee of the Japanese Circulation Society awards the Young Investigator’s Award (YIA) to young international students who come to Japan to do research and who contribute to the progress of the cardiovascular and related fields. Also, the Leader Award will be awarded to the director in charge of the applicant’s research.

QUALIFICATIONS

Each applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Non- Japanese nationality, graduated from a university outside Japan and came to Japan to do research, and has stayed in Japan for not more than 7 years as of March 31, 2022.
  2. Under 40 years old as of March 31, 2022.
  3. Available to make an oral presentation in English at the 86th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society.
  4. The manuscript submitted for the YIA has not been submitted for other awards of the Japanese Circulation Society at the 86th Annual Scientific Meeting.
  5. Has not won first place for YIA for International students in the past.

RESEARCH FOR THE AWARD

Any basic or clinical science research in the cardiovascular or related fields that was conducted in Japan and has not been published as of September 28, 2021. Applicants must have made major contributions to the research concept(s) and conduct of the research.

APPLICATION

Complete the following six documents and submit them to the application office by registered mail. You should download documents ① and ⑥ and fill in the blanks. Documents ② to ⑤ should be one original of each (no staples, no clips, double-side printing is permitted). Save documents ① to ⑥ in PDF format on a CD disc or USB memory device. There are no special formats for these documents. Each document should be one page in A4 size. The office will not return the documents regardless of the result of the award; the applicant is strongly encouraged to keep a copy of the original documents.

②Abstract in English, no more than 220 words excluding title, names and affiliations
③Figures: no limit to the number of figures, but all printed on one page
④Figure legends: the same legends as used in the document
⑤Certification of qualifications: prepared and signed by the director of the applicant’s research
Checklist

NOMINATION

Preliminary nominations will be made based on the application documents. Final nominations will be made at the 86th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society. Awards will be granted for two categories: First place (to one applicant) and Second place (to three to four applicants).

NOTIFICATION OF RESULT

Applicants will receive a letter with the results of the preliminary nomination. The Japanese Circulation Society will announce the results of the final nomination and confer the awards to finalists at the Awards Ceremony during the 86th  Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society.

August 24 - September 28, 2021 (no later than 17:00p.m. JST)
Extended Deadline : Thursday, October 12, 2021, 17:00p.m. (JST)
