The 130th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society
Welcome Message

The 130th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society
President Koh-Hei Sonoda, M.D., Ph.D.
Professor and Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, Graduate School of Medical Science, Kyushu University)
I am truly delighted to host the 130th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society here in Fukuoka, Hakata. We have named this year’s meeting “Hakata JOS” and have been preparing for it with the full cooperation of the faculty and alumni of the Kyushu University Department of Ophthalmology, as well as the Fukuoka Prefectural Ophthalmologists’ Association.

The theme of the meeting is “A dreamy gaze.” I believe that people’s eyes sparkle with life when they are absorbed in something, particularly when doing what they love. Personally, I take great pleasure in seeing people fully immersed in their pursuits. Through this meeting, I hope that some participants may discover their own passions and obsessions, and it is with this sentiment in mind that I selected this theme.

The program, under the leadership of Program Chair Takahiro Hiraoka and the dedication of the program committee, has been crafted into an outstanding lineup. In the special lectures, Dr. Kyoko Ohno and Dr. Kenji Kashiwagi will present the culmination of their work along with the latest cutting-edge research findings. We are honored to welcome Dr. Caroline Klaver (Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands) and Dr. Andrew D. Dick (UCL and University of Bristol, UK) for the invited lectures, where their deep expertise and presentations rooted in advanced technology are highly anticipated. We have 19 symposia, and almost all are conducted in English. Additionally, even for Japanese presentations, we will provide a certain amount of AI-based simultaneous translation. It promises to be a time to fully appreciate the research strength of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society.

Fukuoka is an international city and a gateway to Asia. We expect an increasing number of submissions from overseas, particularly from the Asian region, offering all attendees an opportunity to experience the global scope of our Society. We sincerely hope you look forward to experiencing “Hakata JOS.”
