Chairman's Blog Let's Go to Beppu!

Hello APOG members.
We would like to introduce you to the charms of Beppu.
We are happy if you are reading this blog and interested in attending the conference.

October 17

Hello everyone! It is now less than a month until the conference. It is almost time to see the autumn leaves in Beppu. Beppu has a ropeway and is a popular spot for viewing the autumn leaves. You may want to stop by there when you come for the conference.

Registration has started and as of October 16th, we have received 116 registrations for JSPORL and 47 registrations for APOG. Thank you very much! Please continue to register for the conference. We are working hard on the program, seminars, and reception to ensure that everyone from abroad and Japan will enjoy the conference. We look forward to seeing you in Beppu in a few days!

July 21

Greetings from Japan! Summer has reached its peak, and the heat is becoming even more intense. In Oita, known as "Onsen prefecture," cold springs are recommended during hot summer. (I wonder if Beppu has them?) It's wonderful to be able to enjoy hot springs even in the midst of a heatwave.

Now, thank you very much for the numerous abstract submissions. Thanks to your support, we have received 68 submissions. We sincerely appreciate your enthusiastic response! We are eagerly looking forward to hearing about the research results and findings from those who are actively contributing to the clinical and research fields.
This year's Sweets Seminars will feature more enticing sweets than ever before. It is a must for dessert lovers!

Wishing you a wonderful summer!

May 23

I attended the 124th annual meeting of Japanese Society of
Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery held in Fukuoka. It was a great success.
While the battle against COVID-19 continues, masks were not mandatory, and there were social gatherings, gradually bringing back the traditional conference atmosphere. Not just in Fukuoka, but in Kyushu as a whole, there are many cities where you can enjoy delicious food. Beppu is one of them! I'm looking forward to trying local specialties like toriten (tempura chicken) and jigoku-mushi pudding (pudding cooked in the steam from hot springs) in Beppu.

Now, abstract submission began on May 22nd. We are eagerly awaiting the registration of many participants.

April 1

Cherry blossoms can be seen in April. This year, Tokyo was in full bloom in March. Many people have asked us when the call for abstracts will be? We had planned to start the call for abstracts at the end of May, but now we are preparing to start a little earlier! However, Beppu is very popular in the fall and it is high season, so please make your hotel reservations now. The conference will take place on November 9 and 10.

Feb 25, 2023

I visited the Beppu Convention Center where we are planning to hold a APOG and domestic Japanese society of Pediatric Otolaryngology conference in November. It was a nice, spacious and beautiful facility. It is a 20-minute walk from Beppu Station…… which is an uphill walk… may be good for your health.
There is an old hot spring near Beppu Station. The red mailboxes give it a retro look, don't you? Well..it is one of the many hot springs in Beppu and has been on the list of cultural heritage sites since 2004. Anyone can enjoy the hot springs for 400 yen, so it is a fun place to stop by and take a break from the academic conference. But for foreigners, it can be challenging if you are unfamiliar with Japanese hot springs.
