                          | Greetings from the Chairperson of JCS2023
I am pleased to announce that the 87th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS2023) will take place from March 10th to 12th, 2023 in Fukuoka City.

COVID-19 is not yet completely under control and has had a great impact on JCS members’ clinical practice, research and education, as well as daily life. The Annual Scientific Meeting of the JCS has been held entirely or mainly online for the last three years, greatly limiting opportunities for members to exchange ideas and information. This could have long-term impacts particularly for early-career doctors and scientists who will lead the next generation of circulation research. To offer opportunities for face-to-face presentations and discussions, we are preparing to hold JCS2023 as an in-person event at Fukuoka International Congress Center, Fukuoka Sunpalace and Marine Messe Fukuoka, although parts of the event may be delivered online.

The theme of JCS2023 is “New Challenge with Next Generation.” The “next generation” implies a diverse group of early-career professionals, including doctors, scientists and medical staff who will lead cardiology in the future, as well as new technologies supporting cardiovascular practice and research. Personnel and technological developments are indispensable for making progress in the cardiovascular field, which should be driven by bold but flexible ideas. We strongly hope that through its multidisciplinary approach, JCS2023 will offer learning and networking opportunities as well as contribute to greater knowledge and skills.

The Mikamo Lecture and Mashimo Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Prof. Douglas L. Mann, Cardiovascular Division, Washington University School of Medicine, Missouri, USA and Prof. Yusuke Nakamura, Cancer Precision Medicine Center, respectively. We have also invited Prof. Robert Campbell, a Japanese literature academic at Waseda University, to deliver a special lecture.

We hope that all the members, especially early-career doctors, scientists and medical staff, will gather together in person in Fukuoka to discuss what can be done for the future, across generations and professions. We are working hard to meet you in person in March 2023, and sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
