Outline

Message from the organizer of the Week for JCS 2020

As we announced earlier, we have decided to hold the 84th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society via online streaming, which we believe is the best way to serve the purpose of the meeting in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis.
The greatest advantage of online meetings is that, unlike physical meetings, they can connect us no matter where in Japan or the world we are, without needing to travel long distances. This is efficient for cardiologists and other medical staff in this field, whether clinicians or researchers, who are so busy with their daily work.
Providing opportunities for two-way communications between presenters and the audience is a major objective of scientific meetings. We believe that the real value of such meetings is being able to discuss matters in detail to understand the latest advances, and obtain feedback on our research and daily clinical practice. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of many scientific and research meetings, both large and small, in and outside Japan, drastically reducing the opportunities for cardiologists to meet and exchange opinions. Accordingly, we have decided to present all the originally planned sessions via online streaming in the following two ways, to facilitate two-way communication in addition to uploading presentation slides.

1) Live streaming
2) On-demand streaming

1) We will live-stream 330 sessions from 16 Tracks, from Track 1 to 16, starting from 17:00 on weekdays (Monday–Thursday) and from the morning on the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) during the Week for JCS, which will run from July 27 to August 2, 2020.

For the live streaming, we will use the Zoom Webinar system, which has become increasingly popular recently. Each speaker is required to make a presentation using slides as in general Zoom meetings, while the audience are required to enter the virtual room where the presentation is made. Unlike general Zoom meetings, the audience cannot make comments or presentations but can ask questions in writing using the Q&A system. The questions will be sent to the speaker via the chairperson in charge and answered within the session hours. However, in some sessions, we will introduce the audience response system, which makes comments from the audience visible using the polling function in Zoom. Speakers will respond to the comments within the session hours.
If you fail to attend a live-streamed session, you can watch the video of it on the website of JCS 2020, which will be available for viewing thereafter, until noon on October 30 (Friday), 2020.

2) All the other sessions, including regular abstract and poster presentations, will be recorded in advance using the Zoom meeting function, and made available for viewing on the website of JCS 2020 during the Week for JCS 2020 and thereafter, until noon on October 30 (Friday), 2020. In each of these sessions, viewers can ask questions and make comments about presentations. These questions and comments will be sent by email to the respective presenters, who can respond by logging in to the answer window via the email.

By using these systems, the Japanese Circulation Society aims to encourage innovative two-way communication in the new online environment. Although this attempt may cause some inconvenience due to our lack of experience, we will do our best to make the meeting as fruitful as possible and set an example worth following in the new era. We would highly appreciate your support.
