I am pleased to announce that the 69th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand (JSSH) will be held for two days from April 9 (Thursday) to 10 (Friday), 2026, at Hotel New Otani Hakata and Denki Building (Kyosokan and Main Building) in Fukuoka City. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to host this prestigious meeting, and feel both honored and humbled to take on such an important role. This is the third time for the JSSH Annual Meeting to be held in Fukuoka, and 43 years since it was last held here, following the 1973 Annual Meeting presided over by Professor Atsuto Nishio of Kyushu University and the 1983 Annual Meeting presided over by Professor Naoto Takagishi of Fukuoka University. It gives me great pleasure that this time-honored meeting will return to Fukuoka after so many years. We are now working hard to prepare for the forthcoming meeting to provide meaningful opportunities for participants to learn from and network with each other and envision the future together.
The theme of the 2026 JSSH Annual Meeting is “Gentle Hand Surgery ― Gentle for Patients, Simple for Physicians: Toward a Sustainable Standard.” With the rapid progress of medical technologies, diagnostic and treatment procedures are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complex. This makes it even more important for us physicians to treat patients with gentleness and compassion, and to develop simple and sustainable treatment guidelines which are easy to understand even for young physicians.
In the 2026 JSSH Annual Meeting, we will examine the factors that make treatment so complex and consider the new standard for hand surgery, thereby exploring new treatment guidelines for the future together. The meeting program includes a variety of sessions designed to share the latest practical knowledge, including special lectures, symposiums, panel discussions, hands-on seminars, and educational lectures. In consideration of the sustainability of the JSSH Annual Meeting, there will also be sessions focusing on female and young physicians as part of our efforts to promote diversity and development of the JSSH. With the support of members of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Fukuoka University and the alumni association, we are steadily preparing for the meeting to bring a meaningful and fruitful learning experience to JSSH members, especially young physicians.
As a gateway to Asia, Fukuoka serves as a hub of international exchanges, blessed with a wealth of attractions including the natural environment, cultural heritage, and local food. The poster of the 2026 JSSH Annual Meeting showcases Niginohama Beach in Itoshima, a place renowned for its natural beauty, as well as the Fukuoka Dome, Fukuoka Tower, and the “Path of Light” at Miyajidake Shrine, which became famous through a TV commercial for an airline featuring the popular pop group Arashi. We chose these landmarks as symbols of the “gentleness” and “sustainability” of hand surgery.
I greatly look forward to welcoming you next spring to Fukuoka, with its many must-see places and must-eat dishes, and sharing the latest knowledge and discussing the future of hand surgery while deepening our friendship. |
