Announcement of the 98th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association

The 98th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association will be held over four days from Thursday, May 22 to Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Tokyo International Forum and JP Tower, in Tokyo, Japan. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Lofty Ambition,” a phrase coined by Dr. William Smith Clark, the first Vice-Principal of Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University), and which later became the guiding philosophy of Hokkaido University.

Today, the world of medicine is undergoing massive transformation due to astounding technological advances such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as challenges like reforming doctors’ working practices. I chose this theme because it epitomizes my belief that in these chaotic times, we, as medical and healthcare professionals, must engage in practice, research, and education with “Lofty Ambition” now more than ever.

This Annual Meeting will feature numerous presentations by doctors and researchers who embody “Lofty Ambition” in their work, sharing its significance with participants.

I also intend to share new discoveries in the field of evidence-based orthopaedic surgery from around the world. I believe this, in itself, represents a “Lofty Ambition” of the 98th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association.

I look forward to seeing you all in Tokyo!
