Theme: Integration of Plastic Surgery and Breast Surgery
Subtitle: Bridging across the Disciplines
I am pleased to announce that the 14th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Oncoplastic Surgery (JOPBS) will be held from Thursday, October 8 to Friday, October 9, 2026, at Takanawa Gateway City. It is a great honor to organize this meeting, and I am keenly aware of the weight of this responsibility.
Since its establishment through collaboration between plastic surgeons and breast surgeons, the JOPBS has grown over the past 13 years and has contributed to the advancement of breast cancer surgery through activities such as implant registry and complication surveillance.
Despite this progress, the dissemination of breast reconstruction in Japan remains limited, with significant regional disparities. Further refinement of oncoplastic techniques is also needed to improve cosmetic outcomes after breast-conserving surgery. In addition, emerging approaches—including minimally invasive procedures, endoscopic and robotic surgery, and fat grafting—raise important questions regarding their optimal integration into future practice.
The integration of the strengths of plastic surgery and breast surgery, which formed the foundation of this Society, remains essential for the future of oncoplastic surgery. However, closer collaboration between the two disciplines is needed to further improve breast reconstruction outcomes in Japan. With this in mind, the theme of this Annual Meeting is “Integration of Plastic Surgery and Breast Surgery – Bridging across the Disciplines.” We hope this meeting will serve as a platform to reaffirm our shared goals and to foster renewed collaboration.
This year’s meeting will be held at Takanawa Gateway City, a newly developed urban area adjacent to Shinagawa Station. Located next to Takanawa Gateway Station, this innovative venue offers a fresh and unprecedented atmosphere for an academic meeting. We sincerely hope that, within this futuristic setting, participants will enjoy vigorous and stimulating discussions.
