Dear Colleagues,

It is my great honor to host the 21st Annual Congress of Asia-Pacific Association for Gynecologic Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Therapy (APAGE), which will be held in conjunction with the 61st Japan Society of Gynecologic and Obstetric Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Therapy from Sept 11 to 14, 2021 in Yokohama, Japan. This will be the first APAGE congress in four years to be held in Japan, and the very first meeting to be held in the greater Tokyo area.

Over the years, APAGE has significantly contributed to the scientific and technological advances in gynecological endoscopy. The association has provided an opportunity to exchange new findings and ideas among those in the field, thus increasing patient access to the latest in minimally invasive surgery. It is my pleasure to bring APAGE and JSGOE members together, and to introduce the technology being developed in Japan.

The theme of the 2021 congress is “ Challenge for innovation and make a new standard.” True advances in minimally invasive surgery require innovation and validation. It is my hope that at this year’s congress, we will be able to discuss state-of-the-art technologies and treatment methods on minimally invasive gynecological surgery, and to establish a new standard of treatment based on safety.

Yokohama, the host city of the congress, has prospered as a historic international trading port. It is easily accessible from the Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), and is in close proximity to central Tokyo and many famous tourist destinations (such as Mt. Fuji and Hakone). As you walk the streets surrounding the venue, you will see and feel the mixture of modern and classic cultures which makes Yokohama a unique city in Japan.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose challenges into 2021, we will overcome the difficulties, and many new findings will be disseminated from Yokohama to the world. It is my sincere hope and belief that the APAGE/JSGOE 2021 Meeting will provide members with an opportunity to obtain far advanced knowledge and enjoy every congress program, and deepen friendly relationships with fellow colleagues.

I look forward to seeing you all in Yokohama, Japan in September, 2021!
