Welcome Message

Prof. Hidefumi Mimura

Chair of JSIR & ISIR 2025

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

St. Marianna University School of Medicine

It is my great honor to host the 54th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Interventional Radiology (JSIR 2025) and the 15th International Symposium of Interventional Radiology (ISIR 2025). They will be held from Thursday, May 29 to Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Toranomon Hills Forum in Tokyo in a hybrid format, with both in-person and virtual participation. Since the COVID-19 pandemic subsided, in-person events have resumed worldwide. As an international conference, JSIR 2025 will invite a greater number of speakers from overseas than the typical JSIR meeting. I hope that the meeting will gather international knowledge and facilitate in-person networking.

The JSIR President, Koichiro Yamakado, has set two goals: first, to obtain accreditation for interventional radiology (IR) as a sub-specialty by the Japanese Medical Specialty Board; and second, to establish IR as a standard treatment. The former goal has already been granted, and JSIR is now working hard on preparations.

The theme of JSIR 2025 is “To popularize interventional radiology,” which reflects our desire to spread this minimally invasive, patient-friendly treatment throughout the medical community and to increase public recognition of it. The theme alludes to the question, “What should we do?” To achieve this, a multifaceted approach is needed, including increasing the number of interventional radiologists, improving their education, standardizing IR, discussing with clinicians, introducing new procedures and medical devices, and conducting PR for the general public. While educational and academic activities are the main purposes of the meeting, we would also like to discuss strategies for popularizing IR during the meeting.

Together with JSIR members including doctors and medical staff, related clinical departments, companies and the government, we aim to produce a useful and successful event. We look forward to welcoming many residents and students. We will also offer open lectures and IR classes for students, advertising them to the public via press releases. Our departmental members and medical staff will work closely in cooperation with various parties. Thank you for your continued support.
