It’s our great honor to invite all of you to the combined Meeting; the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot (JSSF) & the 5th Annual Meeting of the Ankle Instability Group (AIG) at Kazusa Akademia Hall in Kisarazu, Chiba, Japan.

You will love the convention facility "Kazusa Arc" of its latest equipment, convenient location from Central Tokyo, within one hour by public transportation, and peaceful environment of Boso Peninsula. We promise that participants can enjoy the conference comfortably.

The Ankle Instability Group, founded in 2013, has held four annual meetings at Bordeaux in 2013, Chicago in 2014, Seoul in 2015 and Bordeaux in 2017. Fourteen English papers were published on the top journals from this group. On the first day of October 31st, we will have special lectures, instructional course lectures, case discussions and free paper sessions as AIG open meeting. On the final day of November 3rd, we are planning to perform the live demonstration surgeries connecting a laboratory of Dokkyo Medical University and a conference room of Kazusa Akademia online. You can experience actual surgical techniques by the top surgeons on the large screen and discuss with them directly. Approximately 30 top surgeons of the world have already scheduled to participate, so it will be a wonderful opportunity to learn cutting-edge knowledge and techniques in this field for sure.

The JSSF developed to a general incorporated association in November 2017. So, the 43rd JSSF is the first annual meeting after being incorporated. This is a major change in the history of the JSSF. To understand the purpose being incorporated to all members, Professor Ozeki, the Chairman of the JSSF, will give a key note lecture entitled "Corporatization and Future Perspective of JSSF".

The theme of this combined meeting is "Let's break down the walls." For further development of foot and ankle surgeries, we believe that it is necessary to remove the walls between the clinics and basic science, among the institutions, among the generations and among the world. Based on this conviction, we are planning several events including a combined symposium with participants from each international conference (Arthroscopy Association of North America, Ankle Instability Group, International Congress on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle, Asian Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons), a special session “Ask the Legends: I have learned Foot & Ankle Surgeries from the failure cases”, a Rising Star session, Ultrasonography Specialty Day and so on.

Boso Peninsula is close to Tokyo, but you may not be aware of its majestic nature, historical culture and wonderful food including a variety of seafood dishes, a special “Kazusa” beef and mountain vegetables. There, of course, are many beautiful golf courses where professional tours are held. Several optional tours are planned to enjoy culture, nature, healing, golf and food of Boso. We hope you will enjoy not only academic activities but also the charm of Boso Peninsula.
