Congress President of the 112th Annual Meeting of
the Japanese Urological Association
Professor, Department of Urology, Graduate School of
Medical Sciences, Kyushu University
The 112th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urological Association (JUA) will be held for three days from Thursday, April 17th to Saturday, April 19th, 2025 at Fukuoka International Congress Center, Fukuoka Sunpalace and Marine Messe Fukuoka. Kyushu University will host the JUA meeting for the first time in 19 years since Professor Emeritus Seiji Naito held the 94th meeting in 2006. I would like to express my gratitude to all the members who recommended me as the president for this meeting with such a long history.
The theme of the 112th JUA meeting is “Aiming toward the next 100 years of urology.” The year 2025 when the meeting will be held marks the 101st anniversary of the foundation of the Department of Urology at the School of Medicine, Kyushu University. We chose this theme to provide an opportunity to discuss with you what direction urological medicine should take for the next 100 years, as well as to look back on the past 100 years of research, diagnosis and treatment for urological diseases in our department. Surgical operations have evolved from conventional open surgery to laparoscopic surgery and then robot-assisted surgery, with the emergence of various new less invasive medical devices that use lasers, shock waves and water vapor. In terms of drug therapy, for example in cancer treatment, as well as conventional anticancer drugs, new drugs including molecularly targeted drugs, immune-checkpoint inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates are being developed, leading to significant improvement in prognosis of cancer patients. Diagnosis is also shifting towards precision medicine which uses biomarkers, companion diagnostics and gene panel tests. We would like to discuss with you how to evolve and refine these aspects for the next 100 years.
It has been a long time since the last meeting was held in Fukuoka. We will ensure a warm welcome for every delegate from around the world. Fukuoka is known for its range of outstanding food. We will also arrange seafood and mountain delicacies unique to Fukuoka so that you can enjoy the local cuisine as well as academic matters. We look forward to welcoming many participants. Thank you.
