Joon Kim is a Lecturer at the Department of Physiology, University of Otago. He completed his PhD in 2016, developing and testing a new anxiety drug target. During his postdoctoral research, he developed his own fibre photometry system to study the regulation of stress neurons in the hypothalamus. His research team uses tools to manipulate the activity of the hypothalamic stress neurons in combination with behavioural analysis to better understand how stress precipitates changes in internal states and lead to mood disorders.
