Welcome Message from the Congress President
  Hiroaki Kobayashi
Congress President of JSGOE & ASGRS 2025
Professor of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Endowed Chair of Advanced Cancer Medicine for Gynecologic Cancer, Faculty of Medicine, Kagoshima University
I am pleased to announce that the 65th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Gynecologic and Obstetric Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Therapy will be held in conjunction with the Asian Society for Gynecologic Robotic Surgery Annual Congress, as JSGOE & ASGRS 2025. As previously shared in the video message on this website, JSGOE 2025 will take place over three days, from September 18 to 20, at SHIROYAMA HOTEL kagoshima. ASGRS2025 will be held concurrently over two days, from September 19 to 20, at the same venue.

As you may know, the Japan Society of Gynecologic Robotic Surgery (JSGRS), currently chaired by myself, will merge with JSGOE, chaired by Prof. Masaki Mandai, in April next year. This merger will establish the Japan Society of Endoscopy and Robotics in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JSERGO), a more comprehensive academic society that integrates the fields of OB & GY endoscopic surgery. Many doctors, including ourselves, have recognized the need for this merger to alleviate concerns regarding delays in insurance coverage for robotic and other gynecologic laparoscopic procedures, setbacks in internationalization, which were exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the need to reform educational approaches to endoscopic surgery, which is at a turning point. We hope that this merger will serve as a catalyst for advancing endoscopic surgery, including hysteroscopy, and pave the way for a society that attracts many obstetrics and gynecology residents. Ultimately, we envision it becoming a compelling reason for many medical students and residents aspiring to become pelvic surgeons to choose obstetrics and gynecology as their specialty.

As this meeting will be the final one before the merger, its theme is “Co-prosperity of Laparoscopy and Robot.” The poster design features a laparoscopic forceps and a robotic arm floating hand in hand, like the Southern Cross shining above the nightscape of Sakurajima. The two silhouette figures looking up at it represent young doctors who will enliven the new society following the merger. The sub-theme features the concept of a “New Normal,” referring to a shift in common sense or norms, a phrase often used during transformative periods such as the financial crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic. We have chosen the title “Medical ‘New Normal’ from Satsuma,” reflecting our aspiration to propose the next stage in endoscopic surgery from Satsuma, a region historically recognized as the center of the Meiji Restoration. The Japanese sub-theme is 薩摩医新 (Satsuma Ishin), a creative adaptation of the term 維新 (Ishin) – meaning “Restoration” – with the character 維 replaced by 医 (medicine). Incidentally, “Satsuma Ishin” is also the name of a well-known Shochu (Japanese distilled spirit) produced in Kagoshima. In addition to this theme’s brand Shochu, we will offer an array of Kagoshima’s finest distilled spirits at the social gathering, including the legendary “Three Ms”: Moriizo, Murao and Maou. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a special tasting session, with a chance to win bottles of Moriizo and Satsuma Ishin. We hope that you look forward to joining us.

We are delighted to report that JSGOE 2025 has received over 900 abstract submissions, alongside invited talks. The program features a variety of sessions, including symposiums, workshops, oral presentations and poster sessions. JSGOE 2025 has two award categories: the Video Presentation Award and the English Session Award. Venue 6 will be dedicated exclusively to ASGRS2025, which has received abstract submissions from across Asia. In addition to the standard oral and video presentations, each session will feature Early Career Award segments for applicants aged 40 and under. A special “Meet the Experts” session will also be held at the same venue as a joint session with JSGOE. We hope you will enjoy the thought-provoking lectures delivered by experts from Asia, Europe and the United States. As well as the sessions mentioned above, JSGOE & ASGRS 2025 will feature a wide range of special lectures, workshops, training sessions and hands-on seminars. We warmly invite you to take full advantage of these opportunities.

Kagoshima is surrounded by magnificent natural beauty, including the majestic Sakurajima volcano, the stunning Kinko Bay and the Kirishima mountain range, which is renowned for its connection to the myth of Tenson Kōrin, the descent of heavenly gods to Earth. Thanks to its volcanic blessings, the region boasts numerous hot spring resorts, with Ibusuki offering the unique experience of sand-steam baths. We sincerely hope that everyone attending the meeting in person will enjoy these experiences after the congress.

We greatly look forward to welcoming you to Kagoshima.
