The 33rd Convention of the Japan Academy of Midwifery will be held at the Fukuoka International Convention Center, Fukuoka City, on March 2 (Mon.)- 3 (Tues.), 2019.
This year’s central topic is “Expanding Japan’s Midwifery Worldwide ~ Nurturing New Life with Love, Knowledge, and Skills.” |
|
|
The ICM emphasized midwives’ existence and important role worldwide, in moving toward the MDGs. The outcomes were valued thanks to many midwifery sisters’ efforts. At this time, we are planning to invite the previous ICM president, Mrs. Frances Day-Stirk who devoted herself to this project. We expect that she will empower Japanese midwives, as key professionals who improve maternal & child health throughout the world. Japanese midwifery is recognized for its high standards, and Japanese midwifery skills are in demand in medical institutions worldwide. |
|
Three main themes in this convention are as follows, |
|
1. |
The bridge between Japan and the world
Japanese midwifery model, Japanese midwives providing training worldwide. |
2. |
Mental care
Perinatal mental health, the relationship between mother & child influencing modern IT,
Child abuse and Children’s mental health |
3. |
Midwives’ autonomy
High quality midwifery diagnosis by using ME, and pioneering midwifery educational methods (Simulation learning methods, OSCE, PBL etc.) |
|
|
As a new program, we will have a general presentation (Oral) in English, and an exchange meeting with the previous president of ICM, Mrs. Frances, Day-Stirk. Japanese midwives will have a wonderful opportunity to broaden their horizons not only nationwide but also worldwide. We will work toward creating new programs which promote further demand of Japanese midwifery care in the world, and participant’s values as midwives.
We hope that this conference will become an enjoyable and fruitful exchange meeting for all of you. |

To give you some facts about the conference city, let me say that Fukuoka is the largest city on the southern island of Kyushu, full of dynamism, with the best of transportation in both land and air. Hakata is also a gourmet city represented by foods such as mentaiko, ramen, and local hot pots. The Fukuoka International Convention Center is located in a scenic area, with the Hakata Bay in front.
Regarding sightseeing in Fukuoka, visitors can enjoy the Fukuoka Dome, home of Softbank Hawks sports team, Dazaifu shrine and the Kyushu National Museum. This season also has the unique and colorful Hina handmade doll festival, which takes place in Yanagawa city.
We are convinced that you can fully enjoy Fukuoka. |
|
We hope that this convention will be a wonderful and fruitful academic meeting. All planning and executing committee members are looking forward to meeting you in Fukuoka on Mar. 2-3, 2019. |
