About Glyco28
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the International Glycoconjugate Organization and the organizing committee, it is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you all to Makuhari, Chiba, Japan, for Glyco28, the 28th International Symposium on Glycoconjugates.
The International Symposium on Glycoconjugates is the official biennial meeting promoted by the International Glycoconjugate Organization (IGO), represented by more than 30 nations. The Inaugural Symposium was held in 1964 in Swampscott, USA, and the second one in 1973 in Lille, France. Since then, the meeting was held every 2 years without interruption until 2021, when the Glyco26 was originally planned in Taipei, Taiwan. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IGO and the organizers of Glyco26 decided to postpone it to 2023. Accordingly, Glyco28, originally planned in 2025, was re-scheduled to 2027. This will be the third Glyco meetings in Japan; the first one was Glyco VI, organized by late Prof. Tamio Yamakawa at Tokyo in 1981, Japan, and the second one was GlycoXV, organized by Professor Akira Kobata again at Tokyo in 1999.
Glyco28 will follow the usual Glyco meeting format of opening on a Sunday evening with the IGO award lectures, then continue throughout the week with Plenary Lectures and parallel Scientific Sessions covering major topics related to Glycobiology and Glycochemistry. Poster Sessions will also be an important part of the symposium, to meet and discuss with other colleagues in the Glyco-fields face-to-face.
The symposium will take place in Makuhari Messe at Chiba. Makuhari Messe is located right next to Tokyo, offering easy access to two key airports in Tokyo area (Haneda/Narita).
There are several hotels within walking distance of the venue in the Makuhari area, offering participants a comfortable and convenient stay.
We are also planning to organize excursions and social programs so that the participants can experience traditional culture here in Japan.
We welcome you all and do hope that you will have a great time in Japan!
